Mary Ann Monteagudo is a recognized legal translation expert and an international speaker with a strong multidisciplinary background. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies and a Master’s Degree in Institutional Translation from the University of Alicante, as well as a Master in Business Innovation from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting from Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazón and is a Sworn Public Translator in English, French, and Portuguese, accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru. She is also an attorney licensed by Universidad San Martín de Porres. Her training is complemented by postgraduate studies in terminology, court interpreting, forensic expertise, commercial law, and administrative law, which support her technical approach to the translation of complex legal texts.
She teaches legal translation at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas and has over 30 years of professional experience as a translator and interpreter specializing in the legal field. She chaired the Regional Center for Latin America of the International Federation of Translators (FIT LatAm) until July 2025, leading initiatives to strengthen the institutional and professional development of translators in the region. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Translators and Vice President of the Association of Peruvian Licensed Translators. She previously served as President of the Association of Peruvian Licensed Translators in 2010–2012 and 2022–2025.
She is a member of several professional associations, including the American Translators Association and the Peruvian Terminology Association (where she served as secretary), and was President of the Ibero-American Terminology Network (RITerm) from 2021 to 2023. She is coauthor of two key works in the field of translation—Diccionario socioprofesional del traductor and Diccionario para profesionales de la traducción—as well as several papers and book chapters on legal translation and terminology.
